The Puritans 8/8/`06

Puritans had a belief of total depravity in which they though through Adam and Eve’s fall; every person is born in sin. Basically everybody was going to go to hell in there eyes, all but the predestination which God only had a few selected for salvation. So the people hoping to be one among the saved examined their inner lives closely for signs of grace, and behave in as exemplary manner as possible. They also believe that the clergy or church could act as an intermediary between the individual and God. In Puritan view, a contract, or covenant existed between God and humanity. In so because of this they prepare the ground for later growth in America democracy.

The Puritans lived a harsh and crazy life. Though some of their beliefs are understandable like all are born sinners and all must strive to receiver his irresistible grace. That God’s wrath and reward are also present in natural phenomena like flooding, bountiful harvest, the invasion of locusts, and the lightening striking a home. To the point where this would run their way of life, but not all things were mint to last. As the world grew older so would the puritans’ beliefs and ideals toward their new world. Now a person would a natural desire to do good and a growth of rationality for themselves. Already the people were on the emerge toward a new salvation that would lead them into a world of rationality.

"Sinners in the hands of a Angry God" was a sermon writen form Jonathan Edwards. This man insame brilliants did exactly what his sermon was suppuse to do, which was to sarce the living hell out of people. I feel what he"s saying but maybe he was a little too harsh or the people just took his sermon the wrong way.In my point of view, his sermon is how we look at the world today. That God has laid himself under no obligation, by any promise to keep any men out of hell or promise to eternal life.
"History of the Plymouth Plantation" tell the pilgrims beleifs as they cross over to the new land and meet the local natvies. They still had a total depravity in which they even taught to the natvie Americans. Also the irresistlble grace that God holds for all those who strvie towards his will. w all they have to do is glorify God and make him more relevant to the universe.
Unconditional Election :And here is to be noted a special providence of God, and a great mercy to this poor people. Irresistible Grace: So they committed themselves to the will of God and resolved to proceed. Limited Atonement :yet God gave them a morning of comfort and refreshing ( as usually He doth to His children).

The puritans had a form of writing call Plan style which was strong, simple, and loical. The pruitans believe that God revealed his prupose to humanity in three principal ways: throught the Bible, throught the natural world, and throught Divine Providence. What makes me think they wrote in this form is because they would it to be taken seriey. They didn't wanted to make it pleasurable nor taken this way.
